CAUDS Corner Holiday 2022

Wishing you a very happy holiday from our Board, staff and volunteers!

This fall, we hosted a community conversation about Alcohol Use Disorder

It takes a whole community to change culture and support new understandings about alcohol use disorder. To facilitate this change, we held a community leaders workshop in Princeton, BC. This community’s local health table is now taking the ideas generated at the workshop and creating a plan for action. Our aim is to build upon this event to provide resources and opportunities to Princeton, and in the future to more communities like yours. Learn more here

Listen to a CBC interview with presenter and CAUDS clinical advisory committee member, Dr. Andrew Ashley and read stories in the Similkameen Spotlight!

A smashing success!

Smashed, the multi-award-winning film about our Society’s founder, Dr. Jeff Harries and his legacy has generated 1000s of views on Youtube, and is helping transform lives.

We will be hosting a viewing on the big screen at Penticton’s Landmark Cinema, Feb. 5th 2023 for members of the Penticton Medical Staff Association.

In February, we will also send out a link to the film for an online viewing party for everyone interested. More details coming your way in the new year!

Read Newly-Added Success Stories!

After more than 30 years, it’s lights out on cravings for Bill, who says that thanks to naltrexone and complementary supports, the appeal of buying beer is now less than buying a desk lamp. Read his story here.

Read our wide variety of stories about individual treatment options and care plans, which are based upon individual, personal, family and consumption history. The good news is that one of, or sometimes a combination of, recommended medications will work for just about everyone.

Contact us if you’d like to share your story!

Did you know that Alcohol Use Disorder is an entirely treatable medical condition, and a full recovery is possible?

Visit our website to learn more about understanding and treating AUD as a medical condition. We’ve added new resources to our Patient and Family section, with more on the way in the new year!

We’re published!

Our letter, Incorporating Ondansetron and Baclofen in Alcohol Use Disorder Treatment, is set to be published in the upcoming issue of the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine. There, we advocate for a more comprehensive approach to promoting all available pharmacotherapies to maximize the effectiveness of treatment. This is especially important with the rise of AUD during Covid and resulting impacts on emergency departments. Link coming soon!

November marked one year since our Society’s founder and inspiration, Dr. Jeff Harries, died from complications of ALS.

Jeff was taken from us too soon, and he had so many plans for helping so many more people. It is with gratitude that we thank everyone for their continued support of the Canadian AUD Society, so that we can continue Jeff’s legacy to transform lives across Canada and beyond.

This holiday season, consider donating to help us continue Dr. Jeff Harries’ important work.

Please consider donating today.
