Since 2017, we have presented to:

  • 150+ groups

  • 4,000+ participants

  • more than 50 communities

The Canadian Alcohol Use Disorder Society continues the work started by Dr. Jeff Harries, spreading the word to care providers, clinicians, Supreme Court judges, Crown prosecutors, defense lawyers, probation officers, child protection workers, counsellors, addiction services workers, First Nations communities and many more individuals in BC, Alberta and beyond. The presentations aim to increase awareness about effective medical treatment for AUD, and to promote a paradigm shift to a more compassionate understanding of AUD as a chronic disease and brain dysfunction, and not a moral failing.

Feature Presentation on Pharmacotherapy Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder, Feb 2022

In this 10-minute presentation, Board Director, Dr. Roland Engelbrecht, shares his extensive knowledge about prescribing for Alcohol Use Disorder as a part of Interior Health’s Echo Project on Mental Health and Substance Use.

Feedback from the presentations is overwhelmingly positive. Here’s what people are saying:

“I can honestly say I have not been to a talk that impacted my practice in such a meaningful way. I think it was the way you presented the information, gave clear guidance for which meds were most helpful in certain patients/scenarios, and empowered each person to make a difference in at least one patient with AUD.”

“This work is so important and dignifying. Thank you!”

“Best and most useful talk I've been to for a very long time.”

"Thank you so much for your talk. It was excellent and super well received. I loved your slides and your message — this is an area of medicine to get excited about!”

“Excellent talk - lots of new information. Informative and practical.”

“Collegial, real world advice - handwriting and his hand-written diagrams were a novel method - keep doing this!”

“Thank you for your energy and dedication to those who struggle with this disorder.”
